Gerald Trimble, internationally acclaimed rare instrument innovator, previews his upcoming presentation:Viols of the Isles- historic bowed instruments from 17th and 18th century England Ireland and Scotland . Included are a c. 1715 pentachord-a type of early 5 string violoncello, a rare British viola d'amore, or "love viol", and sultana- an Irish instrument combining cittern and viola d'amore. He fronts a quartet version of his renowned Jambaroque ensemble, featuring Thomas Aber-bass clarinet, bagpipes of multiple cultures; Steven Brown-mandocello, cittern; and Serdar Tuncten-rare middle eastern drums. Their unique, unmistakable sound blends Celtic, Eastern and baroque elements with improvisation, connecting cultures through the ages.
