The Ward Trio is a Family Band also known as The James Ward Band. The Wards consist of Angela Ward on Keyboards, James Ward on Bass, and Jaylen Ward on Drums. This year James and Angela were recipients of the “Kindest Kansas Citian Award”, presented by Synergy Services. Jaylen Ward has received over 10 Downbeat Awards over the last 2 years including the Student Music Award for Engineered Studio Recording and for the Jaylen Ward Trio Small Jazz Combo. All 3 of them have been voted Favorite Bass Player, Favorite Drummer, and Favorite Keyboard Player, presented by the Kansas City Jazz Ambassadors. They also perform Jazz Cafes around town sponsored by the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra. In addition to performing, James and Angela also run a Music School, the Comprehensive Arts Institute, where they facilitate Music Education Programs in the community. Their mission is to provide a platform for young, aspiring musicians through music education and community programming. The Wards recently participated in International Cultural exchanges in China and Chile where they performed and facilitated Master Classes. They perform locally at The Blue Room located on the Historic 18th and Vine District, Ted’s Taproom, Sullivan’s Steakhouse, Eddie V’s, 1587 Prime, and many more local venues.
